AMD Publishes Embedded EPYC 16 Core Power Consumption Only 100W

AMD today officially released EPYC Embedded 3000 Series and Ryzen Embedded V1000 Series for the embedded market, which are based on Zen CPU architecture. The latter also integrates Vega GPU, which provides life support for up to 10 years, and finally completes the overall layout of Zen architecture.

EPYC 3000 Series is designed for network, industry, storage, edge computing and other fields. It has the same origin as EPYC 7000 Series for data center. It has 16 core threads, 32 MB three-level cache, SoC on-chip system design (without additional chipsets), 4-channel DDR4-2666 memory and 64 PCI-E 3.0. Bus, 8 10GbE Ethernet, 16 SATA or NVMe devices.

Security is also the most important aspect, integrating independent security subsystems, supporting encryption co-processing, hardware trust, SME/SEV memory encryption, and of course, enterprise RAS features.


Specific model specifications are as follows:

EPYC 3451: Flagship product, 16 core 32 threads, 32 MB three-level buffer, reference frequency 2.15 GHz, full-core acceleration 2.45 GHz, single-core acceleration 3.0 GHz, memory four-channel DDR4-2666, 64 PCI-E 3.0, thermal design power consumption 100W, maximum endurance temperature 95 C. EPYC 3401:16 core 16 threads, frequency down to 1.85/2.25/3.0GHz, thermal design power consumption 85W, maximum temperature tolerance 105 C. EPYC 3351:12 core 24 threads, frequency 1.9/2.75/3.0GHz, thermal design power consumption 80W.

EPYC 3301:12 core 12 threads, frequency 2.0/2.15/3.0GHz, thermal design power consumption 65W. EPYC 3251:8 core 16 threads, frequency benchmark 2.5 GHz, acceleration 3.1 GHz (regardless of the whole core and single core), three-level buffer reduced to 16 MB, memory reduced to two-channel, PCI-E 3.0 bus cut half to 32, thermal design power consumption 50 W.

EPYC 3201:8 core 8 threads, frequency 1.5/3.1GHz, memory dual-channel DDR4-2133, thermal design power consumption 30W. EPYC 3151:4 core 8 threads, frequency 2.7/2.9 GHz, memory frequency increased to DDR4-2666, thermal design power consumption 45W. EPYC 3101:4 core 4 threads: frequency 2.1/2.9GHz, three-level cache halved to 8MB again, thermal design power consumption 35W.

AMD claims that the EPYC 3000 series is up to 2.7 times more cost-effective and 2 times more connected than its rivals (Xeon D series). Ryzen V1000 series is actually APU, also SoC single chip design, FP5 integrated packaging, for medical imaging, print imaging, industry, digital signage, aerospace and national defense, thin client, multimedia processing, digital game console and other fields.

Specifications up to 4 core 8 threads, support four 4K monitors, 4K60 video codec, dual 10GbE, SME/SEV security encryption, input and output up to four USB 3.1/USB-C, SATA/NVMe.  

There are only four models: Ryzen V1807B:4 core 8 threads, main frequency 3.35-3.8GHz, secondary buffer 2MB, integrated 11 Vega architecture computing units, 704 stream processors, frequency 1.3GHz, memory support dual-channel DDR4-3200, thermal design power default 45W, adjustable range 35-54W. Ryzen V1756B: Main frequency reduced to 3.25-3.6 GHz, integrated 8 computing units, 512 stream processors, the others as above.

Ryzen V1605B: Main frequency reduced to 2.0-3.6GHz, GPU part frequency reduced to 1.1GHz, memory frequency reduced to DDR4-2400, thermal design power default 15W, adjustable range 12-25W. Ryzen V1202B:2 core 4 threads, secondary buffer 1MB, main frequency 2.3-3.2GHz, integration of three computing units, 192 stream processors, frequency 1.0GHz, support only double 1GbE.

AMD claims that the performance of Ryzen V1000 series is up to two times higher than that of its predecessors (R series), 46% higher than that of its rivals (i7-7700HQ), 3 times higher than that of GPU, and 26% lower than that of its rivals (i7-7700HQ).

EPYC 3000 and Ryzen V1000 have been supported by many industry customers, including Seagate of EPYC 3000 series, Arrow Electronics Intelligent Systems of Ryzen V1000 series, Esaote, QTechnology, Quixant, Sintrones, SMACH Z, and Advantech Innocore, Advantech SOM, AEWIN, AOPEN, A. Xiomtek, congatec, DFI, iBASE, Kontron, Medwell, Mentor Graphics, Sapphire, SECO, etc. have at least 16.
